Error Vector Magnitude Analysis of 4, 8, and 16 Color Shift keying (CSK) Format for Visible Light Communication
Wahyu Hendra Gunawan

Color-shift-keying (CSK) is a promising modulation for the visible-light-communication (VLC) for transmitting data imperceptibly via the variation of red, green, and blue LEDs. Here, we experimentally evaluate the VLC-CSK system with different CSK modulation orders using the error-vector-magnitude (EVM).

Nonlinear dynamics of two mutually long-delay-coupled semiconductor lasers under asymmetric coupling strength
Bin-Kai Liao;Yu-Chen Chu;Sheng-Kwang Hwang

We present investigation of two mutually delay-coupled semiconductor lasers under long delay length both numerically and experimentally. The two lasers exhibit resonance that indicates feedback loop feature; additionally, mode hopping between loop modes occurs. Beyond a certain difference of the coupling strengths, tunable range of microwave frequency is significantly enhanced.

Fiber-Optic Inclinometers Based on a Tapered Polymer
Rui Cheng Zeng

Different structures of taper-shaped polymer fiber tilt sensors for sensing tilt angles have been presented. The thinner polymer taper has higher average tilt response with high sensitivity of 4.23 dB/deg. is obtained when the tilt angle is varied from -6 to +6 deg.

We propose TI-FDMA RoF system to enhance the performance due to lower PAPR and reduce receiver complexity by sub-Nyquist sampling-rate ADCs. Up to 50-Gbps TI-FDMA link with 0.3-GSample/s ADC for each of 32 users is demonstrated.

Silicon-on-Insulator Based Broadband Multimode 3-dB Power Splitter
Jui-Feng Tsai;Pin-Chen Guo;Guan-Hong Chen;Ching-Wei Peng;Chi-Wai Chow;Chien-Hung Yeh

We propose a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) based broadband triple-mode 3dB power splitter using asymmetric-directional-couplers and Y-branch. The maximum crosstalk to the desired output signals is -15 dB; and broadband wavelength window of 40 nm is achieved.

Fiber Bragg Grating Strucutre-Borne Noise Sensor
Yu-Chang Chen;Hung-Ying Chang;Wen-Fung Liu;Cheng-Hsuan Tsai

A novel structure-borne noise fiber sensor is proposed by using fiber Bragg gratings for measuring the structure-borne noise. The operation mechanism is based on the noise shakes this sensor to cause the wavelength shift of fiber grating and then to detect the light intensity variation for obtaining the structure-borne signal.

Photonic Microwave Phase Shift Using Slow- and Fast- Light Effects in Optically Injected Semiconductor Lasers
Kun-Lin Hsieh;Chin-Hao Tseng;Sheng-Kwang Hwang;Chin-Lung Yang

An all-optical approach based on optically injected semiconductor lasers operating at stable locking dynamics is proposed for microwave phase shift. A constant phase shift, which is tunable up to 145o, is achieved over a microwave frequency range from 36.5 to 43.5 GHz by simply adjusting the power of optical injection.
