Computing and swarm intelligence with light-driven colloidal particles
Toshiharu Saiki

We attempt to implement ant pheromone algorithm to find the shortest path between their nest and food using pheromone trails. We used polystyrene beads (PBs) suspended in water as agent ants and employed a phase-change material (PCM) film to mimic the pheromone behavior.

High Throughput, Wide-Field Multiphoton Microscopy For Deep Structural Imaging of Neuronal Synapse Remodeling
Peter T. C. So

Neuron structural remodeling is closely related to mammalian memory plasticity. Many pioneering studies in this field were enabled by point scanning multiphoton microscopy. In vivo, high resolution 3D imaging of the whole dendritic tree requires about 30 minutes.

A Study on Melanocyte-dendricity-sensitive Harmonic Generation Microscopy for Noninvasive Treatment Assessment of Melasma

Melasma is thought to be associated with hyperactivated melanocytes. Melanocyte-dendricity-sensitive harmonic generation microscopy was applied to retrieve melanocyte dendricity score (MDS) to evaluate pathogenesis of melasma. Different from previous studies, MDS shows significant correlation and can serve as an effective index to define the pathological severity of melasma.

We have demonstrated a tunable femtosecond fiber source between 760-1190 nm enabled by self-phase modulation from photonic crystal fibers and Yb-fiber laser. The wide spectral coverage is suitable for most of two-photon fluorescence microscopy applications. We expect to offer a cost-effective and robust solution for two-photon fluorescence microscopy.

Nonlinear Optical Imaging of Mesoscale Volumetric Neuronal Structures
Bhaskar Jyoti Borah;Han-Hsiung Chi;Chen-Tung Yen;Chi-Kuang Sun

We report a volumetric mesoscopic imaging system suitable for large-volume
neuronal imaging with an ultra-large Field of View (FOV) of 1.6mm×1.6mm. A high-NA
objective was employed maintaining sub-femtoliter 3D resolution across the FOV. We further
achieved, for the first time, a super-speed acquisition system with full-field beyond-Nyquist
sampling capability.
